The E-Bus 2020 project is being implemented within the framework of the INTERREG V A program Deutschland-Nederland and financially supported by the European Union, the Province of Gelderland and the Ministerium für Wirtschaft, Innovation, Digitalisierung und Energie des Landes Nordrhein-Westfalen.
We are the E-Bus 2020 project team, among several interesting
innovations, a trolleybus with batteries is being developed with optimized
energy performance. The existing overhead cable network is used as a charging
route. The electric buses with a length of 18 m are charged while driving, so
that no long waiting times occur in the timetable. This results in greater
availability and high productivity for both buses and drivers. Due to the
possibility of driving without overhead lines, existing lines can be extended
to the outer areas, or buses running on diesel or gas can be replaced. Because
new demands are made on the technology. In this project, products are being
developed for the optimization of energy consumption and optimal use of the
charging infrastructure. The vehicles to be developed serve as a test
laboratory. The data is recorded and analyzed by the HAN University. The
database serves as a basis for further developments. The targets set by the EU
for the reduction of pollutant emissions can only be achieved by replacing the
total vehicle fleet in public bus transport. This is made possible for the
first time through the project "E-bus 2020 In Motion Charging".
Worldwide there are 303 existing trolley networks, all of which are potential
customers for direct application of the developed technology. Electro-mobility
will increase the energy needs of the cities. For this reason, expansion of the
energy network is required. In the project the overhead network will be
expanded as "Smart Grid". Specifically, batteries equipped with
batteries are developed for electric vehicles and connected to the trolley
overhead line. This creates a unique new application of trolley infrastructure
and creates a new spin-off for the market. The project started in 2017 and will
end in 2020 with a total budget of € 8.656.818,00
